Happy New Year! After a rocky financial ending to 2008, here’s hoping for a better year economically and internationally in 2009. The event calendar is light this month, with the new year just getting underway. It’s the perfect time to update your skills and knowledge base with an international seminar or speaker event.

EVENT: Jan. 13, Tues. -“Global Boards in a Flat World,” 7am, Boston
The National Association of Corporate Directors, New England chapter, hosts this panel discussion on the impact of globalization on boards of directors. The session is focused on the impact international members have on a company’s board, and how boards can successfully recruit and integrate overseas directors. Panelists include William Bolinder, who’s been a board member at Quanta Capital Holdings, Provident Corporation/Unum, and Zurich Financial Services Group; Dr. Dong-Sung Cho, Director of Hynix Corporation and Kia Motor Ltd. and Visiting Professor at BU; Linda McGoldrick, who’s served on the boards of Charles River Laboratories, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, GenomeQuest Inc., and other firms; and Mark Adams, Area Manager, Boston office of Russell Reynolds Associates. Associated Industries of Massachusetts (AIM) presents this breakfast forum featuring John Zogby, dubbed “the best pollster in America” by USA Today. Mr. Zogby will discuss the political landscape facing soon-to-be inaugurated President Barack Obama. Zogby will also talk about his new book, The Way We Will Be, describing America’s shift “away from wanton consumption to a new global citizenry.” Zogby has polled for Reuters, NBC, and many major media outlets in the US.
