INTERNATIONAL TRADE AWARDS: Nominate a Worthy Company!
The Mass. Alliance for International Business (MAIB) is calling for nominations for its annual International Trade Achievement Awards. These awards recognize companies, organizations or individuals exemplifying leadership and "best practices" in international trade. The 3 winners will receive their awards on the dais at the annual meeting of Associated Industries of Mass. (AIM) May 8, with 400 attendees expected. Winners also received extensive media coverage, with photos and an article in AIM’s Mass. Business Magazine, circulation 13,000. EVENT: Feb. 3, Tues. - Nobel Peace Laureate Muhammad Yunus, 5:30pm, Boston
WorldBoston presents Muhammad Yunus, Founder of Grameen Bank, a microfinance organization with a mission to alleviate poverty through entrepreneurship. Event runs from 5:30-7pm. WEBINAR: Feb. 4, Wed. - "Export Opportunities in Ireland," 11:30am
The US Dept. of Commerce, Commercial Service, presents this second in a series of webinars. This session will focus on Ireland as an American business "Doorway to Europe" due to its role within the Eurozone and as a business-friendly partner to key US multinationals. Cost is $35. In order to reduce costs during the economic downturn, Massport is reducing the gate hours at Conley Terminal. EVENT: Feb. 8, Sun. - Swedish Cross-Country Ski Race, 8:30am, Weston
The Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce invites adults and children to its annual Boston Vasalopp cross-country ski race at the Weston Ski Track, regardless of snow conditions. The race for adults is approximately 5 miles (9 km) and kids' races are shorter and according to age. Cost is $30 members, $35 members, and kids are $10 or free, depending on age. EVENT: Feb. 10, Tues. - "Energy & the Global Economy," 6pm, Boston
WorldBoston presents Professor Nazli Choucri, Head of the MIT Middle East program and Director of the Global System for Sustainable Development, who will talk about the instability in key energy-producing regions such as the Middle East, the increasing energy demand from developing countries, and how this affects the global economy. The US Dept. of Commerce, Commercial Service, presents this seminar for people interested in learning about the Dominican Republic’s key industry sectors and the legal aspects of doing business there, and how US firms can qualify under the CAFTA-DR Free Trade Agreement. EVENT: Feb. 27, Fri. - "Overseeing Anti-Corruption Compliance in Global Business," 8am, Boston
The National Association of Corporate Directors, New England chapter, hosts a panel of authorities who will share their expertise on how companies can mitigate the risks of global corruption, particularly focusing on the role of the board in overseeing these practices. Nearly 2/3 of senior executives operating globally have experienced actual or attempted corruption in their business dealings, but fewer than 25% believe their companies have adequate anticorruption measures in place. Panelists for this discussion include Donna Boehme, principal, Compliance Strategists LLC; Mary Beth Buchanan, US Attorney, Western District of Pennsylvania; Erik Skramstad, US Leader of the Forensic Services practice, PricewaterhouseCoopers; and Carol Valenstein, Partner, Bingham McCutchen LLP.
