EVENT: Aug. 14, Thurs.—Women2Women Welcome Reception, 5:30pm, Boston
Join Mass. State Senate President Therese Murray and Senate Majority Whip Joan Menard as they welcome over 80 young women from 14 countries to Boston Empower Peace’s 3d annual Women2Women Cultural Connection and Leadership Program. Location is State Room, 60 State St., 33d Floor, Boston. Time is 5:30-7:30pm. Event is free of charge but pre-registration is required. EVENT: Aug. 21, Thurs. - “China Watch” Dinner Roundtable, 6:30pm, Woburn
Anew Corporation, a China centric business consulting firm, presents the first of a series of networking events regarding business opportunities with China. EVENT: Aug. 29, Fri. - “Economic Summit 2008: Today’s World Economy,” 7:30am, Smithfield, RI
Bryant University’s John H. Chafee Center for International Business presents this forum to highlight the challenges of today’s fragile global economic situation and the US’s increasing exposure to problems, including the trade deficit, foreign policy, and financial issues. Keynote speaker is The Honorable David Walker, President & CEO of the Peter Peterson Foundation in Washington DC, who just completed a ten-year term as the US Comptroller General and head of the Government Accountability Office (GAO.) Master of Ceremonies is Ernest Almonte, Incoming Chairman of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Auditor General for the State of Rhode Island. Other speakers include professors from Bryant and senior managers from Interthinkx, Gem Plumbing & Heating, Hasbro, the RI Economic Development Corp. and the Providence Chamber of Commerce. WorldBoston presents this speaker event featuring Red Cavaney, Chairman & CEO of the American Petroleum Institute, who was formerly president and CEO of the American Plastics Council, the American Forest & Paper Assn., and the American Paper Institute. He was also a senior member of the White House staffs of US Presidents Reagan, Ford and Nixon. TRADE MISSION TO PANAMA: Oct. 26-29
The US Commercial Service is leading a trade mission to Panama for US firms interested in exploring this lucrative market. Taking advantage of the momentum generated by the proposed US-Panama Free Trade Agreement and the Panama Canal expansion, this mission will include an economic briefing, one-on-one business appointments, a Panama Canal Authority procurement interview, and a reception at the Ambassador’s residence.
