EVENT: Nov. 27, Tues.—"Australia/New Zealand Resident Alien Survival Guide Seminar, 6:30pm, Cambridge
The Australian American Association of New England hosts its 5th annual Resident Alien Survival Guide seminar, featuring presentations from global immigration lawyer Scott Fitzgerald of Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy, LLP, and tax attorney Arthur Kerr of Vacovec, Mayotte & Singer, LLP. Representatives from the Australian and New Zealand governments will also be on hand. Seminar will be held at the MIT Faculty Club, 50 Memorial Drive, 6th Floor, Cambridge. Admission fee $20. CONECT (Coalition of New England Companies for Trade) and the Mass. Export Center present Congressman McGovern, D-3rd Congressional District, who is Vice Chair of the powerful House Rules Committee. EVENT: Dec. 5, Wed.—"Continental Breakfast with the Ambassador from Korea to the U.S.," 7:30am, Boston
Associated Industries of Mass. (A.I.M.), its affiliate the Mass. Alliance for International Business, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, & the US-Korea Business Council present a breakfast with His Excellency Lee Tae-sik, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the United States. Ambassador Lee will talk about the recently-signed US-Korea Free Trade Agreement (FTA) & its benefits for Massachusetts businesses & the overall economy. Korea was the 7th largest trading market for Mass. exports in 2006. The breakfast will be held at Associated Industries of Massachusetts, 222 Berkeley St., 13th Floor, Boston. The Greater China Business Council presents this special event in concert with the Mass. Export Center. The British-American Business Council of New England invites you to attend its 21st Christmas luncheon, with Consul-General Dr. Phil Budden as guest speaker. Dr. Budden assumed his new position in August 2007; he was previously First Secretary for the UK's US Science, Technology, Innovation and Business network (including Boston), as well as technology policy, transatlantic relations and British-American business affairs. He received his D.Phil, MA and BA from Oxford University (Lincoln College), and an MA from Cornell University (USA). His wife Deborah is a Massachusetts native with a PhD from UMass Amherst. SEMINAR: Dec. 12-13, Wed./Thurs.—"Essentials of Export Controls & ECCN Classification," 8am, Boston
The Mass. Export Center and the US Department of Commerce, Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), present this intensive training on how to comply with the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). Location is UMass Boston Campus Center, 100 Morrissey Blvd., 3d level, Boston. Cost is $175 for materials, breakfast & lunch, or $250 for both 12/12 and 12/13 seminars. The ECCN Classification workshop on 12/13 runs from 8am-1pm and provides a detailed look at the step-by-step process for determining the appropriate Export Control Classification Number (ECCN) of your item. Location is UMass Boston Campus Center, 100 Morrissey Blvd., 3d level, Boston. Cost is $125 for materials and breakfast, or $260 for both seminars.

WEBINAR: Dec. 13, Thurs.—"Foreign Nationals & Deemed Exports: What Every Tech Company Should Know," 1-2:30pm, EST
The Mass. Alliance for International Business (MAIB) and the Mass. Export Center present “Opening an Overseas Sales Office…Lessons Learned in Europe, China & Beyond.” This all-day seminar features speakers from Mass. companies including ZOLL Medical Corporation (Chelmsford), Morgan Construction Company (Worcester), Voice Signal Technologies (Woburn) and BzzAgent (Boston), as well as experts from McCarter & English LLP; Chubb Group of Insurance Companies, and Blick Rothenberg Chartered Accountants.
