EVENT: Nov. 3, Fri.--US Undersecretary of Commerce for International Trade, Mr. Franklin Lavin--Noon, Cambridge

Franklin L. Lavin, Under Secretary of the U.S. Department of Commerce for International Trade, is the featured speaker at this lunch event sponsored by the Mass. Biotech Council. Under Secretary Lavin is an advocate for American business and a steadfast promoter of free markets across the globe. His International Trade Administration helps develop U.S. trade policy. Mr. Lavin was US Ambassador to Singapore from 2001- 2005. Thomas Finneran, President of the Mass. Biotech Council, will introduce Mr. Lavin. Event location is Mass. Biotech Council, One Cambridge Center (Main Street), Cambridge. (Kendall Square) Event is free of charge, but pre-registration is required for security purposes. Call Mass. The French-American Chamber of Commerce presents a French Food and Wine reception at the French Library, 53 Marlborough Street, Boston, from 6-9pm. Learn about Alsacian culture, cuisine and wine. EVENT: Nov. 8, Wed.--Lecture by Jonathan Fried, Exec. Director for Canada, Ireland & the Caribbean for the IMF, 11am, Waltham

Brandeis University's International School of Business presents Jonathan Fried, who has been at the IMF since early 2006. Mr. Fried formerly served as Senior Foreign Policy Advisor to the Prime Minister of Canada and Head of the Canada-U.S. Secretariat. He was also Canada's chief negotiator on the accession of China to the WTO and Principal Legal Counsel for North American Free Trade negotiations. He served at the Canadian Embassies in Washington DC and in Brazil. Mr. Fried has been a Visiting Professor of Law at University of Toronto. Lecture is from 11am-12:30pm and is open to the public. The Mass. Alliance for International Business (MAIB) presents a breakfast featuring Mr. Pedro Caceres, a native of Spain who was recently appointed Global Vice President for Operations at LENOX/American Saw in Longmeadow. Formerly Senior Vice President of Operations for Hasbro North America, Mr. Caceres will share insights gained over two decades of overseeing international manufacturing operations for IT companies as well as the world's largest board game and puzzle manufacturing facility. Event is co- hosted by World Affairs Council of Western Mass. and the School of Business at Western New England College.
