EVENT: Sept. 27 & 28, Wed.-Thurs.--US Patent & Trademark Office Conference on Protecting Your Intellectual Property in China, 8am, Boston

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is sponsoring a 2-day, free-of-charge program on "China's Impact on Intellectual Property: Protecting your Intellectual Property in China and the Global Marketplace. Target audience is companies of any size, from those contemplating entering the China market to those with an established presence there. Conference is at the Omni Parker House, 60 School St. Program runs from 8am-5:30 pm and is free of charge, but seating is limited. To register, go to the US Patent Office website. EVENT: Sept. 27, Wed.--English for New Bostonians Forum, 8:30am, Boston

English for New Bostonians is a public-private solution initiated by the Mayor's Office to expand the city's capacity to meet the demand for English classes for immigrants. With immigrants comprising 17% of the state's workforce, the need for additional English as a Second Language classes is critical. Join in this discussion with Mayor Thomas Menino; Mass. Convention Center Exec. Director Jim Rooney; and other guests. Location is Bank of America, 100 Federal Street, Boston. Time is 8:30am-10am, with a light breakfast served. WorldBoston presents Ambassador Afif Safieh, Palestinian Representative to the U.S., at this luncheon event. Mr. Safieh was appointed to this position in 2005 after serving 15 years as the Palestinian envoy to the U.K. and Vatican. He was born in Jerusalem. A former member of the Nova Scotia legislature and a Cabinet Minister for nine years, Mr. LeBlanc was named Consul General in August 2006.
