EVENT: Sept. 18, Mon.--WorldBoston "Celebrating the World Through the Arts", 6pm, Boston

WorldBoston presents this 45th Anniversary Dinner, celebrating art, music and dance across all boundaries. This evening will showcase the influence of international culture within the Boston community. Featuring performances by American Repertory Theatre, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Univ. Opera Institute, Huntington Theatre Company and Jose Mateo Ballet Theatre, this event begins with cocktails at 6pm and dinner/performances at 7pm. EVENT: Sept. 18, Mon.--US Patent/Trademark Office Conference on Intellectual Property, 9am, Providence, RI

The United States Patent & Trademark Office presents a Conference on "Intellectual Property in the Global Marketplace." Guest speaker is Steve Pinkos, Deputy Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Deputy Director of the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. This conference will help small businesses address the realities of intellectual property counterfeiting and piracy and help attendees learn the steps needed to protect their assets in the U.S. and abroad. This is part of the government's STOP (Strategy Targeting Organized Piracy) program. Conference location is the Providence Biltmore at 11 Dorrance St. Program runs from 9am-5pm and is free of charge, but seating is limited. To register, go to the US Patent Office website. EVENT: Sept. 18-19, Mon.-Tues.--UMass Boston US-China Business Forum--"Opportunities for Biotech & Medical Device Industries", 9am, Boston

UMass Boston brings together business and political leaders from China and Massachusetts to discuss economic issues, explore potential collaborative efforts, and build relationships. Targeted to decision-makers in the biotech and medical device industries, this forum includes speakers such as Senator Edward Kennedy, Tom Finneran (President of the Mass Biotech Council), Tom Sommer (President of MassMEDIC), UMass President Jack Wilson and UMass Chancellor Michael Collins. EVENT: Sept. 27 & 28, Wed.-Thurs.--US Patent & Trademark Office Conference on Protecting Your Intellectual Property in China, 8am, Boston

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is sponsoring a 2-day, free-of-charge program on "China's Impact on Intellectual Property: Protecting your Intellectual Property in China and the Global Marketplace. Target audience is companies of any size, from those contemplating entering the China market to those with an established presence there. Conference is at the Omni Parker House, 60 School St. Program runs from 8am-5:30 pm and is free of charge, but seating is limited. To register, go to the US Patent Office website. EVENT: Sept. 27, Wed.--English for New Bostonians Forum, 8:30am, Boston

English for New Bostonians is a public-private solution initiated by the Mayor's Office to expand the city's capacity to meet the demand for English classes for immigrants. With immigrants comprising 17% of the state's workforce, the need for additional English as a Second Language classes is critical. When workers can communicate in English, customer service, manufacturing production, patient care and family income are improved. Join in this discussion with Mayor Thomas Menino; Mass. Convention Center Authority Executive Director Jim Rooney; and other guests. Location is Bank of America, 100 Federal Street, Boston. Time is 8:30am-10am, with a light breakfast served. EVENT: Sept. 27, Wed.--Canadian Consul General to New England, 5:30pm, Boston

The New England-Canada Business Council presents a networking wine and hors d'oeuvres reception to welcome Mr. Neil LeBlanc, Canadian Consul General to New England. A former member of the Nova Scotia legislature and a Cabinet Minister for nine years, Mr. LeBlanc was named Consul General in August 2006. Event is at the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel, 138 St. James Ave., Boston. Cost is $35 for NECBC members and $45 for non-members and guests. The French-American Chamber of Commerce, the British-American and German-American Business Councils, and the Netherlands America Group present this "EU Connection" event at Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo at One Financial Center, Boston. Guest speaker is Thomas Finneran, President of the Mass. Biotech Council. Learn more about the biotech environment in Boston and the biotech relationships between Boston and the EU.
