Health Care Committee

ImageAIM’s Health Care Committee is by invitation, a 60-plus group of AIM members focused on legislative and regulatory issues affecting the cost, quality and accessibility of health insurance in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  The group assists AIM in developing its pro-business legislative agenda and works to defeat legislation offered by others that would be counter-productive to health care quality, harmful to the business climate, costly to the businesses located here or complicated to comply with or administer.

Members
The Health Care Committee is comprised of benefit managers, human resource professionals, public policy analysts and representatives from provider organizations, health insurers and pharmaceutical companies.

Format
The Committee meets five times a year.  An expert in health care or a public official in the health care arena, such as the Chair of the Joint Committee on Health Care Financing, addresses the group discussing current health care or insurance legislation or other relevant matters, usually with a lively give and take on questions and answers.  This presentation is followed by a discussion among members about existing or potential issues the committee can address collectively, strategy for moving the agenda forward, a legislative update by AIM staff and other relevant business.

Issues
During the past legislative session, AIM advocated successfully for management reforms to the uncompensated care pool and for more transparency in the health care system in terms of provider performance and insurance costs.  AIM partnered with the Massachusetts Healthcare Purchaser Group and Patient Choice to introduce the concept of tiered networks into our health care delivery system so that employers and employees would have lower cost insurance options.  AIM fought legislation to undo the small group insurance reforms and successfully amended a ballot initiative to make health care a constitutional right by ensuring voters will have the final say in any plan put forth by the Legislature.

AIM Committee Staff
Eileen P. McAnneny, Esq. staffs the Health Care Committee and has been with AIM since 1998.  She is one of two primary lobbyists for AIM on Beacon Hill.  In addition to covering health care issues, Eileen is responsible for taxation policy at AIM  Prior to joining AIM, Eileen served as counsel to the Senate Chair of the Joint Committee on Taxation for almost four years.
