HR-Labor Law Committee

AIM's HR-Labor Law Committee provides the association with strategic guidance towards the development and advancement of AIM's public policy agenda relative to human resources and labor law issues. This group focuses on state and federal legislative and regulatory issues affecting employers. Members are interested in job creation and investment in the Commonwealth. The Committee provides real-time understanding of "doing business" in Massachusetts and specific issues that affect our greatest resource - our people. AIM works with key thought leaders to develop and advance a pro-jobs legislative agenda. Members actively engage in public policy matters to address issues and develop solutions.

To accomplish its mission, the Committee:

  • Discusses issues that relate to AIM's public policy agenda and other strategic or emerging issues and services important to advance a pro-jobs business climate
  • Provides regular updates and conducts periodic meetings and briefings
  • Helps to identify and analyze Management and HR services for members
  • Provides thought leadership and knowledge sharing
  • Provides its members with opportunities to actively engage legislators, regulators, and other policy makers

Members
The HR-Labor Law Committee is comprised of a very diverse group of human resources professionals, business executives, employment law attorneys and public policy analysts representing every sector of the Massachusetts economy. The group also forms ad hoc task forces of thought leaders to actively address specific issue areas.

Format
The Committee communicates regularly and usually holds up to two scheduled meetings per year. Members receive immediate notice and timely analysis of key legislative and regulatory issues. Members also provide critical insights regarding pending legislation and regulation affecting all employers.

Issues
During the past legislative session, AIM focused on employment law issues directly effecting job creation and business competitiveness. Specifically, AIM successfully excluded the private sector from a "card-check" union organization proposal through an amendment which now only applies to state workers. AIM also continues to offer solutions and guidance regarding the Criminal Offender Register Information (CORI) system and the state's Data Privacy Regulations.

This session, AIM's Commonwealth agenda focuses on creating jobs and economic opportunity in Massachusetts. Specific legislative proposals aim to correct the treble damages law passed during the 2007-2008 legislative session in addition to several reforms focused on the CORI system, the Unemployment Insurance System and the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination as well as a proposal to encourage non-discrimination training in the workplace.

AIM Committee Staff
Bradley A. MacDougall staffs the HR-Labor Law Committee and has been with AIM since 2007.
