AIM legislation is designed to lower the cost of health care by imposing a mortatorium on new health-care mandates and repealing mandated benefits that are no longer effective. The bill also calls for reform of medical malpractice and streamlining of health-related administrative procedures.

Employers pay an annual surcharge on their unemployment insurance bills of $16.80 per employee to cover the cost of health insurance for the unemployed. AIM’s bill eliminates the fund because Health Reform has given people the ability to purchase health insurance through the Commonwealth Connector at affordable prices.

An Act to Contain Health Care Costs
The bill seeks to increase transparency in the cost of health care by requiring health-care facilities to make charge information available to self-pay patients, establishing a billing appeal process and making charge master information available.
