Benefits administration by the numbers

Overview:           

Everyone involved in day-to-day benefits administration needs to know the numbers, qualifying events, and notices associated with COBRA, HIPAA and Mass Continuation Laws; what they mean, who or what they apply to, and which ones apply to their business.  This program is designed to provide practical information, advice and tools to assist these individuals as they deal with the realities of administering to the numbers.

Participants Will Learn To:

  • Understand COBRA, HIPAA, and MA Continuation laws
  • Analyze qualifying events and notice requirements
  • Conduct analysis of the interplay with FMLA
  • Develop legally compliant policies
  • Identify common mistakes and how to avoid them

  • General review of COBRA, HIPAA and Massachusetts continuation laws
  • Analysis of qualifying events and notice requirements
  • Guidelines for development of policies and procedures
  • Common mistakes
  • Interaction with the Family & Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
  • Dealing with divorced/legally separated - Massachusetts
  • Sample policies, notices and other forms
  • Group exercises and real life scenarios
