Human Resources for Non-HR Managers

Overview

You’re the controller, the office manager, the plant manager, or the executive assistant to the president for a small company.   Are you also the Human Resources Department?  If so, then this program will help you gain general knowledge of human resources policies, laws and practices.  It will also help you to identify situations which may put your company at risk and provide you with a working knowledge of the basics of human resources management – knowledge that can be applied to almost every aspect of your position.

Who should attend:

This program will benefit any manager or supervisor who has the responsibility for their company’s human resources function.  It is also appropriate for HR professionals whose experience has been in a single functional area or for managers who want an introduction to human resources.

  • What you must know about federal and state laws and requirements
  • About personnel recordkeeping - what to keep and for how long
  • Pre-employment screening strategies
  • Pointers for policy development
  • What performance management is and isn’t

  • Recruitment and selection, including list of acceptable questions
  • Self-test to reinforce legal and illegal interview questions

 Program Length: Full Day (6 hours)
